In addition to supporting the weavers, JULAHA also decided to support the other professions involved in the handloom sector, in order to build up the capacity of the complete value chain. Card makers, dyers, designers, merchandisers and embroiderers thus also benefit from JULAHA’s action. Functional mobility is supported, if the value chain should show weaknesses in particular fields.
JULAHA’s beneficiaries must meet the following criteria:
- They are under the poverty line (link1, link2) and permanent residents of the cluster considered;
- They have their own loom/s or infrastructure;
- They demonstrate a confirmed willingness to change;
- The weaver or at least one family member is highly skilled in traditional weaving or in the related activity considered;
- In case of a family, at least one young member must be a skilled artisan or professional.
